LAST PARADE “Lead Me Home” CD Review

Thursday, May 19th, 2011

The first track on the album “Shape of her Demise” is one of many styles. The song starts of with a latin style, then it progresses into motown switching between the two until about two minutes in. At this point it turns into a rock song with a tom heavy drum riff and powerful vocals from singer Patrick Fischer and the backup vocalists. My favorite part of the song happens to be the rock part or the C-section, because I’m into heavier music.

“Angel of Adversity” is a slow pop-rock song that embraces today’s music technology. Between the overlaid vocals, panning, and the heavily compressed drum sounds, there is a lot that goes into this song. Though sadly it doesn’t do the track any justice.

Music in Goa, India

Saturday, May 7th, 2011

Music like life and everything in it, is continuously evolving and music in Goa has been evolving just like anywhere else in the world, at times even spearheading the evolution with genre’s like ‘Goa Trance’ an internationally popular form of electronic music that originated in Goa in the 80′s. Goa has always been an inspiring environment for creative artistes from all over the world and I won’t be surprised if the next big thing in music comes right out of Goa.

With current trends I’m also sure that the next big thing would come out of a creative DJ’s electronic arsenal. I’ve been hearing things like ‘acoustic instruments can never be replaced’ for over a decade now. I’ve been hearing it mostly from musicians like me who play acoustic musical instruments.

Responding to the Modern World in Composing New Music

Monday, May 2nd, 2011

The link between the arts and the environment in which art is produced has been firmly established over many centuries. The starting point for my work as both a composer and a researcher is my contention that for composers to contribute to the evolutionary continuum of music as a living, breathing art, their work must resonate with and reflect the modern world in which it is conceived.

This notion was the main motivation for me in returning to the art music world after nearly decades in which I was embroiled in Pop-related culture. And it has occupied a central role in all my work, particularly since early 2008, the period from which I have been content for my compositions not to be retrospectively withdrawn.
